A Sunday morning fire caused an estimated $25,000 in damage to a two-story home on Rusty Lane but was quickly brought under control by the Bloomington Fire Department.
Fire crews were dispatched at 8:52 a.m. to 3110 Rusty Lane, where they found flames in an outdoor garbage receptacle that had spread to the siding and soffit near the garage. The blaze was extinguished within minutes using less than 200 gallons of water.
Firefighters confirmed the fire had not reached the attic and determined the cause to be the improper disposal of ashes and embers. No injuries were reported, and the home’s residents were not displaced.
Officials reminded residents to maintain working smoke alarms, know two ways out of their homes, and practice fire safety, noting that fires can double in size every 30 seconds.
