A fire heavily damaged a home on Virginia Avenue Tuesday evening, sending the occupant to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Normal Fire Department was called to 102 E. Virginia Ave. around 5:30 p.m. and arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the residence. Flames were discovered in both the living areas and attic, prompting a greater alarm response. Bloomington firefighters assisted with suppression efforts and ventilation.
The occupant had escaped before firefighters arrived but was hurt in the process. Paramedics provided treatment at the scene before transporting the individual to the hospital.
It took crews about 40 minutes to bring the blaze under control. The home sustained significant smoke, heat, and water damage and is uninhabitable.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
