The City of Bloomington is deeply saddened by the passing of Ryan Whitehouse, Chair of the Connect Transit Board of Trustees. Ryan had served on the Board since 2012, and he dedicated himself to championing safe, reliable, and accessible public transportation for all residents.
During his tenure, Ryan’s leadership was instrumental in shaping the future of public transit in Bloomington-Normal. He guided major system improvements, including long-term planning, fleet modernization, and the vision for a new downtown transfer center that will better connect people to jobs, schools, healthcare, and opportunity. His commitment ensured that Connect Transit remained not only a transportation system but also a vital community lifeline.
Mayor Dan Brady shared,
“On behalf of the City of Bloomington, we extend our deepest condolences to Ryan’s family, friends, colleagues, and the entire Connect Transit team. Ryan’s years of service left an indelible mark on our community. His legacy will live on every time a bus carries someone safely to work or school, and every time public servants step forward with the same spirit of dedication that defined Ryan’s life. Bloomington is stronger because of him.”
City Manager Jeff Jurgens added,
“We have not only lost a dedicated public servant, but also a true friend to so many. Ryan’s enthusiasm was contagious, bringing high energy and a great sense of humor to nearly every interaction and always inspiring people to aim higher. He loved this community and selflessly poured himself into making it better. We feel his loss deeply and will honor him by carrying his work forward.”
