Creditors of The Bon-Ton Stores (parent company of Bergner’s which has a store in Bloomington) are trying to buy and liquidate the department store chain, while an investor group that includes two mall owners also hopes to buy stores in a bankruptcy court-supervised auction Monday and keep the business open. The Pantagraph reports the latter faced a setback in court last week when a bankruptcy judge decided the investment group couldn’t collect a $500,000 fee from The Bon-Ton Stores to do due diligence into the purchase. The group says it is still in active discussions to complete an asset purchase agreement to proceed toward the court-supervised auction scheduled to be held on April 16, 2018.
