A Normal man has died after being struck by a vehicle on Veterans Parkway in Bloomington on Wednesday night. McLean County Coroner Dr. Kathleen Yoder identified the victim as 57-year-old Rodney L. Arbuckle, who was pronounced dead at 7:50 p.m. at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center.
According to preliminary findings, Arbuckle died from head injuries after being struck in the roadway between Oakland Avenue and Lincoln Street — an area without an intersection or crosswalk. Toxicology results are pending as the investigation continues.
Bloomington Police say early reports indicate Arbuckle was in the roadway when he was hit. Police Chief Jamal Simington urged both drivers and pedestrians to follow safety laws, noting that fatal crashes are preventable. “As a pedestrian walking on streets, it is very difficult to determine how fast a motor vehicle is traveling, especially at night,” he said. “Let’s all do our part to improve roadway safety.”
The Bloomington Police Department, McLean County Accident Reconstruction Team, and Coroner’s Office continue to investigate. Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Jeff Linden at 309-820-8888 or Jlinden@cityblm.org.
