Five adults were displaced after a house fire Friday morning in the 600 block of East Chestnut, according to the Bloomington Fire Department.
Firefighters were dispatched at 10:43 a.m. on Dec. 12 and arrived minutes later to find smoke and fire in the attic of a three-story, four-square-style house converted into apartments. Due to heavy fire conditions, additional resources were requested as crews advanced hose lines to the third-floor attic and second floor, where a ceiling collapse contributed to the fire’s spread.
Cold weather and snow complicated suppression efforts, and firefighters worked for nearly an hour before bringing the fire under control. No injuries were reported. The Red Cross assisted displaced residents, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
