Midwest Food Bank is deploying five truckloads of emergency aid to Southern communities following one of the most widespread and deadly winter storms in recent U.S. history. Partnering with The Salvation Army, the shipments include food boxes, hygiene kits, and bottled water to support ongoing disaster relief efforts.
The storm battered more than a dozen states from Texas to New England between January 22–25, bringing blizzard conditions, ice storms, and record-low temperatures. More than 800,000 residents were left without power, transportation systems were crippled, and at least 30 storm-related deaths were reported. Four truckloads are being sent to Georgia counties including Habersham, Lumpkin, Rabun, Stephens, White, Barrow, Clarke, and Hall, while one truckload is headed to Mississippi to assist communities in and around Corinth and Tupelo.
“Disasters don’t wait, and neither do we,” said John Cirilli, Executive Director of Midwest Food Bank. “Families are still facing extreme cold, power outages, and shortages of basic necessities. We’re honored to support The Salvation Army and deliver critical supplies where they’re needed most.”
