The Normal Police Department will increase traffic enforcement from March 13 through 6 a.m. March 23 as part of a St. Patrick’s Day safety campaign with Illinois State Police and the Illinois Department of Transportation.
Officers will focus on drivers impaired by alcohol, cannabis, and other drugs, including prescription medications. Seat belt enforcement will also increase, especially at night, while officers monitor for speeding, distracted driving and other violations.
Officials urge motorists to plan ahead by using a designated sober driver, public transportation or ride services. The “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Drive High. Get a DUI.” campaign is funded through federal traffic safety grants administered by IDOT.
