Tornadoes hit Illinois counties, damage reported
Extensive damage is reported after severe storms led to tornado reports in several counties across Illinois and northwest Indiana.
Supercell storms produced hail, including a six-inch diameter hailstone in Kankakee, and wind damage.
Bailey to miss campaign stops to be with family
Republican gubernatorial candidate Darren Bailey is spending several days away from his campaign due to another death in his family.
Bailey said in a statement that his late daughter-in-law’s father passed away after a battle with cancer.
Darren’s son Zachary Bailey, Zach’s wife Kelsey, and their children, 12-year-old Vada Rose and 7-year-old Samuel, died in a helicopter crash Oct. 22 in Montana.
Chicago city council meeting canceled
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has cancelled a special meeting of the city council he had scheduled Wednesday afternoon.
The meeting agenda included the Reverend Jesse L. Jackson Sr. Fair Access to Democracy Ordinance, a proposal the mayor said would protect poll workers, the electorate and election-related activities.
