The Town of Normal is launching several projects to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Route 66, including a commemorative logo, a June 7 roadside picnic and a new mural at Sprague’s Super Service.
Mayor Chris Koos said Route 66 remains a symbol of connection and draws visitors from around the world. The town partnered with Rivian and local artist Mike Mahle to create a centennial logo featuring Abraham Lincoln alongside a Rivian vehicle, which will be used throughout 2026 on promotions and merchandise.
A 1950s-themed “Roadside Picnic” is planned from noon to 4 p.m. June 7 at One Normal Plaza as part of a countywide celebration. The event will feature live music, vintage games and classic picnic fare.
Meanwhile, Sprague’s Super Service is being restored and will feature a new mural depicting a nighttime scene in Normal. The mural is expected to be completed this spring ahead of the June celebration.
