Heartland Community College has named Karla Huffman as the next Dean of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences.
The Dean of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (LASS) is responsible for providing strategic leadership, administrative oversight, and academic vision for the LASS division, which includes approximately 20 areas of study.
Huffman is currently a faculty member at Heartland Community College, where she is a Professor of Communication and the Faculty Coordinator of Civic Engagement. She joined Heartland in 2015, having previously served as faculty in the School of Communication at Illinois State University and having professional positions in public relations and media.
Huffman holds a Master of Science in Communication from Illinois State University.
Outside of the college, she has a number of affiliations and memberships in community organizations and currently serves as Chair of YWCA McLean County Board of Directors.
“Karla brings extraordinary strengths to this position, including more than two decades in higher education as a communication professor and academic leader whose work has been marked by a commitment to the success of faculty, students, and our community,” said Sarah Diel-Hunt, Heartland Community College Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs. “Karla’s work to bridge academic and student services internally while also leveraging her deep roots in our community has proven critical as we work to develop and enhance a coordinated culture of care at the college.”
Huffman will move into the Dean role at the conclusion of the college’s current spring term.
