An overwhelming majority of more than 300 Illinois State University employees represented by AFSCME Local 1110 have approved a new contract, ending a four-week strike in Normal. More than 95% voted in favor after a tentative agreement was reached late Monday.
The five-year deal includes an immediate 3.5% pay raise, a $1,500 lump-sum payment, and annual 3% increases from 2026 through 2029—totaling a 16.5% compounded wage gain. The agreement also preserves a “me-too” provision tying future raises to administrator pay beginning in 2028.
Union leaders said the deal secures fair pay and respect for workers, while also resolving disputes that led to the strike. As part of the settlement, the union will drop its lawsuit and labor complaints against the university. Employees are set to return to work Wednesday, May 6.
