Union Pacific Railroad’s contractor will close the railroad crossing on West Washington Street from Saturday, July 4, through Monday, July 6, to complete a full railroad crossing replacement.
The project includes replacing the railroad tracks, ties, crossing surface, and adjacent asphalt. The crossing will be closed to all traffic for the duration of the work.
Detour routes will be clearly marked, and motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra travel time. Electronic message boards will be placed in advance of the closure to alert drivers.
Although the closure coincides with Independence Day festivities, motorists traveling to and from the Miller Park fireworks celebration will be able to follow the signed detour or use alternate routes, including Oakland Avenue and Euclid Avenue.
The City of Bloomington appreciates Union Pacific’s coordination in providing advance notice of the project and thanks residents and visitors for their patience during the improvements.
