A traffic stop for speeding Tuesday led to the arrest of a Bloomington man and the seizure of more than five pounds of cannabis and about $30,000 in cash, according to the Normal Police Department.
Police say an officer conducting radar enforcement in the 700 block of East College Avenue attempted to stop a speeding vehicle, but the driver fled. The vehicle entered the northbound lanes of Main Street while attempting to turn south, struck a concrete barrier, and the driver ran from the scene. Officers, assisted by the Illinois State University Police Department, located and arrested the suspect near University and Osage streets without incident.
Investigators say they found approximately $30,000 in cash bundled in a manner consistent with narcotics trafficking, along with a package that alerted a police K-9 to the presence of drugs. After obtaining a search warrant, officers discovered about 5 pounds, 1 ounce of cannabis inside the package and an additional 40 grams of cannabis in the vehicle. Barry D. Guyton, 29, of Bloomington, was charged with manufacture/delivery of 2,000 to 5,000 grams of cannabis and aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude a peace officer. Authorities note that all charges are allegations, and Guyton is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
