Central Illinois Regional Airport is undergoing an extensive rehabilitation of its short-term, two-hour parking lot, with the project expected to continue through November.
The work includes full excavation and reconstruction of the center portion of the lot, milling and resurfacing of the outer areas and rehabilitation of the main exit lane in the long-term parking lot. All work is being completed by Central Illinois contractors.
Airport Executive Director Carl Olson is urging travelers to avoid construction areas because of uneven pavement and other hazards. Changing pedestrian and vehicle routes will be marked with signs and CIRA’s “Hello Yellow” construction markings.
Travelers should allow extra time to navigate the airport and are encouraged to use the free shuttle between the long-term parking lot and terminal. Officials also recommend using the front curb for passenger drop-offs and pickups rather than parking.
The short-term parking lot is expected to reopen in November. Construction updates are available through CIRA’s social media channels and website.
