Part of the 2026 Route 66 Centennial Celebration, The Parking Lot Party will celebrate the Mother Road with music, food and community at the popular Route 66 destination. Visitors can enjoy:
- Live music from 7-9 p.m. by 1950s-inspired rockabilly band Union Avenue
- Shopping at Ryburn Place Gifts & Gab
- Butcher Block Burger Shop food truck from 6-8 p.m.
- Viewing the new Route 66 Centennial mural
- Giveaway items and prizes
- Dancing, conversation and community
The Route 66 Centennial Parking Lot Party is sponsored by VisitBN’s Partners in Promotion Program and the Town of Normal.
The Town of Normal purchased Sprague’s Super Service in 2016 and has been caring for and refurbishing the building. Thanks to grants secured by VisitBN, the Town of Normal worked to restore the building to its original footprint in 2025 and further enriched the space this year with a mural titled “Enjoy a Normal night out.”
Parking for the event will be limited to street parking. Visitors are encouraged to arrive early to allow time to find parking on nearby streets.
Seating will also be limited. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to enjoy the evening comfortably.
About Sprague’s Super Service (305 Pine St., Normal)
Sprague’s Super Service is on the National Register of Historic Places (2008) and is also a designated local landmark (2011). The Tudor-Revival style building at 305 Pine St. was constructed in 1930-31 by Bloomington Contractor William W. Sprague. He developed the building to house his traffic-related business along the popular Route 66 corridor, which followed Pine Street through a portion of Normal. The first floor featured the office, cafe and mechanical space for the service station. Two apartments were located on the second level and served as residences for the owner and service attendant.
