(The Center Square) – The Liberty Justice Center’s Tariff Equity and Refund Resource for America says nearly 20,000 tariff refunds totaling $1.6 billion are stuck due to either a lack of or incorrect banking information filed.
LJC chairman Sara Albrecht recently told The Center Square some of the tariff refunds might be stuck in limbo if the companies that initially paid them haven’t filed or have made an error in entering their banking information.
She said companies who haven’t seen movement on their refund should discuss it with their importer of record.
The LJC also detailed that nearly $100 billion is making its way back to companies that paid the tariffs, which were ruled unconstitutional by the U.S. Supreme Court, from Customs and Border Control via the U.S. Treasury.

More storms are expected across Illinois this week after at least one tornado was reported in LaSalle County late Sunday night and multiple counties had tornado warnings late Sunday and early Monday.
The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory and extreme heat warning for several counties in southern Illinois, Missouri and Kentucky through Thursday.
ONE DEAD, SEVERAL INJURED AFTER CAR-BUS CRASH IN FORD COUNTY
State police are investigating after one person died and several were injured in a collision between a car and a school bus in Ford County.
Police said preliminary information indicated the car failed to yield on Illinois Route 9 near Gibson City on Saturday morning, when it was hit by the bus carrying the Hoopeston Middle School softball team.
One car passenger was pronounced dead and three others suffered injuries. The 20 students on the bus were taken to area hospitals, but initial reports did not indicate any serious injuries.
EX-WEST CHICAGO TEACHER ACCUSED OF SEXUAL CONTACT WITH STUDENTS
A former West Chicago public school teacher has been accused of having inappropriate sexual contact with five students on multiple occasions during the 2025-2026 school year.
Authorities said Mario Garcia, 54, of Aurora is charged with predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, aggravated criminal sexual abuse and aggravated battery.
Garcia was a third-grade teacher at Currier Elementary School. He is scheduled to appear in court on August 31.
FOREIGN NATIONAL SENTENCED FOR FIRING SHOTS NEAR BORDER PATROL IN CHICAGO
A Mexican national who was in the U.S. illegally has been sentenced to two and a half years in federal prison for firing shots near U.S. Border Patrol agents in Chicago last fall.
Prosecutors said, later that day, Hector Gomez, 46, brandished a handgun at an individual in a parking lot a few blocks away.
Gomez had previously been convicted of a felony firearm offense in Cook County and was prohibited under federal law from possessing a gun.
