Bloomington Mayor Dan Brady has issued a second emergency declaration following heavy rainfall and flooding across the city. He is also extending an emergency declaration issued Thursday after widespread storm damage.
The declarations address separate impacts from several days of severe weather. The Bloomington City Council will consider extending both declarations for 30 days during a special meeting Monday night.
Flooding Friday night prompted the city to activate storm mode. Crews responded to about 80 incidents, while the Emergency Communications Center handled 112 calls, most of them weather-related. City officials said crews are continuing to deal with hundreds of damaged or downed trees, power outages and flooding.
Residents are being urged to avoid flooded roads and never drive around barricades or through standing water. The city also is waiving fees for additional bulk waste collection buckets when storm damage is documented through the myBloomington system.
City officials are encouraging residents and businesses affected by the storms and flooding to complete damage assessments to help document the community’s overall impact and support recovery efforts.
