Illinois Humanities will honor four leaders for their contributions to storytelling, culture and civic engagement during its annual Public Humanities Awards on Sept. 23 at the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago.
Among the honorees is Mike Matejka, a longtime McLean County community leader, historian and writer. Matejka serves on several local and state historical organizations and is co-chair of Not In Our Town Bloomington-Normal.
The awards recognize Illinoisans whose work strengthens communities through history, journalism, education and culture. Illinois Humanities will also present its Beacon Award to folklorist and philanthropist Sue Eleuterio and a special Humanities Hero Award to Mayer Brown for its pro bono partnership.
