The Town of Normal, Ryburn Place and the Bloomington-Normal Area Convention and Visitors Bureau will host a free Route 66 Centennial Parking Lot Party from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, at historic Sprague’s Super Service, 305 Pine Street in Normal. The event was rescheduled after severe weather forced the cancellation of the Aug. 15 party.
The evening will feature live music from 7 to 9 p.m. by the 1950s-inspired rockabilly band Union Avenue, along with dancing, food, shopping at Ryburn Place Gifts & Gab, giveaways and a chance to see the new Route 66 Centennial mural.
The event is sponsored by VisitBN’s Partners in Promotion Program and the Town of Normal as part of the 2026 Route 66 Centennial Celebration.
Parking will be limited to nearby street parking, and seating will be limited. Visitors are encouraged to arrive early and bring lawn chairs or blankets.
The Town of Normal purchased Sprague’s Super Service in 2016 and has since worked to restore the historic Route 66 landmark. The Tudor Revival-style building was constructed in 1930-31 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2008. It also became a local landmark in 2011.
