The Town of Normal has announced official trick-or-treat hours for Halloween. Trick-or-treating will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31.
Halloween Safety Reminders
Parents are encouraged to inspect all treats and review these safety tips with children:
- Only approach homes with an exterior light on, indicating they are welcoming trick-or-treaters.
- Stay on sidewalks, use crosswalks and cross only at intersections. Never run into the roadway.
- Trick-or-treat with friends or an adult. Children should not go alone.
- Wear reflective clothing or carry a flashlight after dark.
- Never enter a stranger’s home.
Motorists should drive slowly, yield to pedestrians and watch carefully for trick-or-treaters.
Halloween Events in Normal
Several Halloween-themed events are planned throughout October.
Spooky Movies — Throughout October
The Normal Theater will screen spooky movies for all ages, including The Rocky Horror Picture Show with a live shadow cast, Beetlejuice, Hocus Pocus, Frankenstein and more. Tickets and showtimes are available at NormalTheater.com.
Haunted Trail
- Not-So-Scary Version: 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 15-17
- Scary Version: 6:30 to 9 p.m. Oct. 23-24
The Constitution Trail will be transformed into a spooky attraction presented by the Town of Normal Parks and Recreation Department. Admission is $5 per person, cash only. Canned-food donations count toward free admission only during the first weekend. Details are available at NormalParks.org/hauntedtrail.
ARTworks: Potion Creations — 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22
The Illinois Art Station will host a spooky workshop where participants can create their own one-of-a-kind potion. The program is for ages 8 and older with an adult, or ages 18 and older attending alone. Tickets are $40. Details are available through the Town of Normal’s ARTworks program.
Halloween Hoopla — 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23
The Children’s Discovery Museum will host costume activities, trick-or-treating throughout the exhibits, spooky science, hands-on games and more. Admission is $11 for members/Museums for All participants and $16 for non-members/PlayPass holders. More information is available at ChildrensDiscoveryMuseum.net/HalloweenHoopla.
Witches Night Out — 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23
Participating Uptown Normal businesses will host a dress-up shopping event presented by Uptown Partners. Admission is free.
Treat Feast — 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29
Uptown Normal’s annual trick-or-treating event is free and open to all ages. The event is presented by the Town of Normal. Details are available at UptownNormal.com/treatfeast.
Normal Public Library Programs
Space is limited for several library programs. Registration and additional information are available at NormalPL.org.
Horror Movie Trivia with the Slash Sisters — 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7
Test your knowledge of horror movies and all things spooky, creepy and macabre. Participants can compete individually or in teams of up to six. Registration is required.
The Midnight Society: Book Discussion — 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28
The discussion will focus on The Bewitching by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. Participants can also discuss horror books, movies, television shows or podcasts they have enjoyed and exchange recommendations. Light refreshments will be provided. Registration is required. The program is for ages 18 and older.
Halloween Hullabaloo — 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28
Children and families can enjoy stories, songs, a costume parade, activities and refreshments. The program is geared toward children ages 3 to 5 and their families, but all are welcome.
Teen Halloween Party — 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30
Teens can enjoy costumes, games, tricks, treats and a creepy scavenger hunt during this after-hours event. A costume contest will also be held. Registration is required and space is limited.
