GOP leaders urge AG to oversee Champaign County elections
Republicans are calling on Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul to provide independent oversight of ballot processing in Champaign County. Illinois House Republican Leader Tony McCombie, R-Savannah, and state GOP Chairman Bob Grogan said it is not a mere technical issue that the Champaign county clerk issued hundreds of early vote and vote by mail ballots with incorrect district information.
As The Center Square reported on Tuesday, at least 600 ballots were misprinted and at least 60 were cast with errors, which included candidate choices for the 103rd and 104th Illinois House races switched to the other district’s voters.
Champaign County Clerk Aaron Ammons and his wife, state Rep. Carol Ammons, D-Urbana, pleaded not guilty in July to federal charges over an alleged kickback scheme involving taxpayer dollars. Aaron Ammons was charged with witness tampering and obstruction of justice.
