The City of Bloomington has reached a settlement in a lawsuit involving former Assistant Police Chief Paul Williams and plaintiffs Garrett Chubb and Lenelle Higgins.
Under the agreement, the city will pay each plaintiff $24,999.99, for a total settlement of $49,999.98. The settlement resolves the litigation without an admission of liability by the city or Williams.
With the lawsuit resolved, the city plans to resume its review of the incident, including the actions taken, the subsequent response and how similar situations are handled within the organization.
City Manager Jeff Jurgens said the city began its own review before the lawsuit was filed and will now continue that effort without the restrictions associated with active litigation.
Jurgens said the goal is to identify lessons learned, address any remaining concerns and strengthen the organization moving forward.
Mayor Dan Brady reaffirmed the city’s support for its employees, particularly members of the Bloomington Police Department, emphasizing that public safety remains a top priority.
Brady praised police officers for their hard work and dedication to serving and protecting Bloomington residents.
The city said it remains focused on supporting its employees and maintaining the standards of service residents expect.
