Kankakee County is ready to honor its three governors, including the two with checkered pasts. The Daily Journal reported yesterday that the county board voted last week to build a memorial to the three Illinois governors who called Kankakee home. Len Small, Samuel Shapiro, and George Ryan all lived in Kankakee. Ryan famously went to prison as part of a corruption scandal. Small was charged with corruption, but was acquitted by a jury that mostly went on to get state jobs. The paper says the Woman’s Club of Kankakee led the drive for the memorial.
