A blast of Arctic air will arrive on Tuesday, remaining across the area through Thursday. The map shows Tuesday night’s wind chills between 40 and 50 below zero north of I-74, and 25 below south of I-70. Thursday morning will be only about 5 degrees “warmer” due to less wind, although actual low temperatures may be slightly colder. Wind chills this cold are very rare in this area, and can result in frostbite in under 10 minutes on exposed skin. Wednesday and Thursday will be good days to just stay inside; if your heat can’t keep up, check for warming shelters in your area.
